The Legend of The Pokémon Lady

In a small town in southern Illinois sometime during the early 2000s, there was a mysterious person known throughout the region as “The Pokemon Lady.” She was middle aged, never talked, but was always down for a trade.

Kids from all around would ring her doorbell, flash some Pokemon cards, and ask for the chance to make a trade with one of the great legends of their time. They’d always try to come out on top, but little did they know that she almost never revealed all of her cards. The secret rares, shining alternates, and any cool holographic she couldn’t give up all stayed back inside, safe away from prying eyes. A select few, however, with legendary cards of their own might have a chance to coax them out and score an epic trade of their own. But she always made great trades, sometimes seeking out the rarest of the rare, willing to drop some heavy hitters to get what she truly wanted.

Eventually, though, the Pokémon card fad faded away and the trading stopped, but the Pokémon Lady, and her collection lived on, silently waiting for their popularity to return.

Unfortunately, she wouldn’t get to see the resurgence of Pokémon cards. She would never again get to trade with the neighborhood kids, feel the rush of opening a new booster pack, or trade for her new favorite card. The Pokémon Lady passed away from cancer in 2020, leaving behind a legend that forever lives in the hearts of those she traded with all those years ago.

This website is to honor her memory, and her legendary collection.

As her son, I am faithfully scanning each and every card, duplicates and all, and uploading them here. There are 10 binders in total, including her Grail binder, which she filled with some of her most prized cards.

To those who traded with her all those years ago, thank you. She really loved trading with you all.
